Mercedes is preparing a major update for the EQS and the first information clearly shows the direction: more range, faster charging and more advanced electric technology. According to information that appeared in the international automotive press, the new Mercedes EQS restyling can achieve a WLTP autonomy of up to 574 milesthat is, approximately 924 km. If this data were confirmed in the final series configuration for Europe, the EQS would enter the discussion about the most efficient electric luxury sedan of the moment.
For the Romanian market, however, there is a very important nuance: the new restyling model is not yet present on the official Mercedes-Benz Romania websiteso there is no confirmed local price for this version yet. For this reason, any reference to price must be treated strictly as indicative reference point or comparison with the current model and other European markets, not as the official price for Romania.
What does the new Mercedes EQS restyling bring with it
The most important change announced for the new EQS is the move to an electric architecture 800V. For the average user, this mostly means faster charging. If the current EQS ran on a 400V platform, the redesign would move to a system capable of DC charging up to 350 kilowatts.
On paper the difference is notable. Under ideal conditions, the new EQS could add approx 319 km of autonomy in the right way 10 minutes loading. For a large electric limo meant for long trips, this is exactly the kind of upgrade that matters more than any small design tweak.
Another important innovation is the larger battery, de 122 kWhcompared to the battery up to 118 kWh available on current model. The increase doesn’t seem huge at first glance, but combined with the optimizations in efficiency, thermal management and aerodynamics, the end result is much more important than just the difference in capacity. Hence the autonomy announced up to 924 WLTP kilometers.
Aerodynamics remains one of the main weapons
The Mercedes EQS has been one of the most aerodynamic production cars in the world since its launch and the facelift continues this philosophy. The aerodynamic coefficient of approx 0.20 remains essential for low consumption at high speeds and high autonomy.
In a luxury electric car, aerodynamics is not just a detail on the technical sheet. It directly affects how relaxed you can be on the highway and how often you have to stop to charge. For a model like the EQS, which is also used for long journeys, this is one of the most important qualities.
Mercedes also announces improvements to the braking energy recovery system. In other words, the car not only consumes less thanks to its shape, but also recovers energy more efficiently in urban traffic or in areas where the speed varies frequently.
What we know about engines
The information available so far shows that the range of the new EQS facelift would begin EQS 450+a version with a single electric motor e approximately 362 HP. Further up the range there would also be versions with two engines and all-wheel drive EQS 500 AND EQS 580 4MATIC.
Although Mercedes has not yet released all the final details for each version, the direction is clear: the EQS remains a model focused on refinement, comfort and efficiencynot on sporting aggression. That doesn’t mean it will be slow. In contrast, even basic versions of this class provide more than sufficient acceleration for any normal usage scenario.
In the case of such a model, buyers are not only looking for fast sprints up to 100 km/h, but above all a quiet ride, refined suspension, excellent comfort and a complete premium experience. Here the EQS has always been strong and the restyling seems to reinforce these strengths.
New technology: steer-by-wire and more comfort
One of the most interesting new features is the optional aspect of the system steering by wire. It eliminates the traditional mechanical connection between the steering wheel and the steering system, replacing it with an electronic control. In theory, the advantages are many: faster reactions, easier maneuverability at low speeds and the possibility of using a forked steering wheel.
For a finished limousine 5.2 meters longsuch a system can bring real benefits in the city, especially when maneuvering and maneuvering in confined spaces. The all-wheel steering also helps here, which reduces the turning radius and makes the car easier to use than you might think looking at the dimensions alone.
Pneumatic suspension Airmatic It would also receive upgrades for greater comfort. And in this chapter the EQS must stay very close to what the Mercedes name promises at the high end: an experience as close as possible to that of an electric S-Class.

The interior remains a strong point
Although the restyling seems to focus mainly on the technical side, the EQS remains one of the most advanced Mercedes in terms of on-board technology. The «electric business lounge» concept remains perfectly valid.
The current model has already impressed with elements such as MBUX Hyperscreenaugmented reality head-up displays, premium audio systems and rear-seat comfort packages. The redesign is expected to maintain this approach and refine the experience, not radically change it.
For customers in this price range, it’s not just the numbers that make the difference. The atmosphere on board, the quality of the materials, the level of sound insulation and the sensations that the car makes you feel during a long journey are also important. And EQS was designed precisely for this role.
Mercedes EQS 2026 price: what we can say and what we can’t say
Here we need to make a very clear distinction between official data AND assessment.
At this moment, the new Mercedes EQS facelift is not officially listed on the Mercedes-Benz Romania websiteso there is no confirmed local price for our market. For this reason it would not be correct to present any price as «the price in Romania» for the new model.
What we can do is only an indicative comparison:
- the current Mercedes EQS model exhibited in the local market was positioned in the area above 100,000 euros
- The new restyling has been talked about in the European automotive press since approx 94,403 euros in Germany, but this is only a reference value for that market and should not be interpreted as an official price for Romania
Therefore it is more correct to say this: the new EQS facelift will almost certainly remain in the area of premium electric limousines above 100,000 euros, but the exact price for Romania is not yet officially confirmed.
How it compares to direct rivals
The Mercedes EQS plays in the same league as similar models BMW i7 and, from the point of view of theoretical autonomy, it is inevitably confronted with Lucid Air. The difference is that Mercedes already has a strong presence in Europe, a solid sales and service network and a very high level of trust in the premium segment.
In practice, this matters a lot. A car is not just about a big battery and a good WLTP level. It is also the ecosystem that surrounds it: service, warranty, availability, brand image and overall user experience. From this point of view, the EQS starts very well.
If the facelift delivers exactly what it promises on paper, then Mercedes could have one of the most compelling premium electric sedans in Europe.
Is the new Mercedes EQS worth waiting for?
For those who want maximum autonomy and more advanced charging technology, the answer is very likely AND. The 800V architecture and 350kW charging can significantly change the real-life usage experience, especially for those who often undertake long journeys.
However, for those who find a good deal on the current model, things are not at all simple. The current EQS is still an impressive car: very spacious, very comfortable and with an excellent official range for its category. In other words, the restyling promises a lot, but the current version also remains very strong.
