Renault Clio remains one of the big names in the small class, but in the new E-Tech 160 full hybrid formula it tries to be more than just a city car. It wants to be modern, efficient, well-connected and mature enough to convince even customers who previously would have looked directly at a compact model. And after a few kilometers behind the wheel it becomes clear that the French have done many things well.
What the new Renault Clio E-Tech full hybrid 160 looks like
The first big advantage of the Clio is the design. The front now has more personality, the light signature makes it easily recognizable and the overall proportions are well balanced. It’s not a car that tries to appear other than it is, but it manages to convey exactly what it needs to: that it’s a more mature, better designed and more detailed small sedan than many alternatives in the segment.
In the well-equipped versions, the large wheels and styling cues give it an almost premium feel for this class. The Clio is one of those cars that make a good impression both in photos and in traffic, without unnecessary frills. For me, the design chapter is one of the main reasons why I immediately like the car.
What engine does the Renault Clio Hybrid have and what are the important specifications
Under the hood we find the system E-Tech full hybrid 160cu 116 kW / 160 HPtransmitted through a E-Tech multi-mode automatic transmission. Renault indicates a combined WLTP consumption of for this version 3.9 – 4.1 l/100 kmemissions of 89 g/km of CO2total autonomy up to 1,000km and a trunk up to 391 litres.
On paper the package is very convincing. You have the promise of a small sedan, but with enough resources for mixed use, commuting, city and country roads. Additionally, the Clio comes with up to 29 support systems and with the multimedia system openR link with integrated Google services.

How it feels behind the wheel in the city and beyond
At low speeds, the Renault Clio E-Tech does exactly what a modern full hybrid promises: it starts smoothly, feels light and the transitions between electric and thermal driving are, in most cases, well calibrated. In the city, this is its natural environment. The steering is easy to use, the size makes it easy to maneuver and the overall feel is of an efficient car and very suitable for everyday use.
On country roads the Clio remains competent and stable enough, and the hybrid system offers decent revs for normal overtaking. It’s not a sports car, nor does it try to be, but it has enough oomph for a relaxed to moderate driving style. This is precisely where the main warning appears: when accelerating more strongly or when the combustion engine is subjected to more intense demand, Its noise penetrates the cabin more noticeably than you’d like.
Here’s my big problem with the car. I really like the technology, I like the look of it, and I like the feel of a modern product, but the engine isn’t always as refined as the rest of the experience suggests. We are not talking about anything dramatic, but just note the contrast between a well-presented interior and a mechanical sound that takes away a little from the impression of a mature product.
Technology and interiors: one of the Clio’s strong points
If there is one chapter in which the Renault Clio E-Tech 160 can quickly win over many customers, it is technology. The model may have two screens up to 10 inchessystem openR linkintegration with Google and a modern, well-crafted interface. In practice, this matters a lot, as the interior seems updated and better digitized than many of its direct rivals.
For many buyers, especially those upgrading from older models or budget alternatives, the Clio will seem like a surprisingly well-equipped car. The overall ergonomics are quite clear and the combination of technology and interior design is one of its best arguments.

How much does the Renault Clio E-Tech full hybrid 160 cost in Romania
In Romania, Renault Clio E-Tech full hybrid 160 starts from 22,750 euros in the official price list. At the same time, the official Renault promotion for Clio full hybrid evolution E-Tech 160 lower the initial price to 20,250 euros VAT included.
This positions it very well in the segment, especially if you take into account the technological level and the fact that we are talking about a full hybrid without plug-in charging.
Comparison Renault Clio Hybrid with its direct rivals from Romania
Renault Clio Hybrid vs Toyota Yaris Hybrid
The Toyota Yaris remains the rival every hybrid sedan needs to keep an eye on. In Romania, Yaris Hybrid 116 CP start from 22,309.98 eurosand the version Yaris Hybrid 130CP go up to 28,351.51 euros in Exclusive equipment. This means that in terms of list price the Clio E-Tech 160 is very close to the 116 HP Yaris Hybrid, but comes with a more mature presentation, a more generous boot and a «larger» car feel in everyday use.
But the Yaris has some classic points in its favor: the excellent reputation of Toyota’s hybrid system, its recognized efficiency and its image as an extremely safe long-term choice. Clio responds with a more expressive design, a more visually spectacular interior and a digital experience that may seem more modern to many customers.
Renault Clio Hybrid vs Peugeot 208 Hybrid
The Peugeot 208 Hybrid is above all in terms of style. In Romania, 208 Hybrid 110 e-DCS6 start from 24,650 eurosStill 208 Hybrid 145 e-DCS6 start from 27,600 euros. From this point of view, the Renault Clio E-Tech 160 performs very well in terms of value: at 22,750 euros list and even 20,250 euros on sale, it’s more affordable than the 208 Hybrid without looking any less modern.
The Peugeot 208 impresses with its exterior design and specific i-Cockpit ambience, but the Clio seems more balanced as an overall package for the Romanian market. The Renault comes with a more aggressive entry price, a very practical trunk and a multimedia system that, for many users, will be easier to integrate into daily use.
Where Clio excels and where it loses
Compared to its direct rivals, the Renault Clio E-Tech 160 obtains excellent scores external design, technology on board, price-equipment ratio AND practicability. It’s the type of car that gives the impression of offering a lot for the asking price, and this matters a lot in a segment where every thousand euros makes a difference.
Instead in the chapter sound improvementClio is not the category leader. This is where rivals may seem better filtered in certain acceleration and extra-urban use situations. It’s not a big enough issue to put the car out of the running, but it’s a detail worth examining closely during your test drive.

Verdict CautiMasina.ro
The Renault Clio E-Tech full hybrid 160 is one of the most interesting proposals in the small sedan segment in 2026. It looks good, offers a lot of technology for the category, promises low running costs and comes with a mature overall package, well adapted to the Romanian market. From my point of view the strengths are clear: the drawing, technology and the feeling of a modern car, well thought out for everyday use.
However, there is also a negative aspect that deserves to be said directly: the noise of the combustion engine It doesn’t live up to the level of refinement suggested by the rest of the car. If you can overcome this limitation, the Clio E-Tech 160 remains a very solid choice. If you are sensitive to soundproofing and mechanical refinement, this is the chapter you need to pay most attention to.
For those who want a hybrid sedan with a successful appearance, current technology and a competitive price in Romania, the Renault Clio undoubtedly deserves to be on the shortlist.
