Renting a car is a convenient solution, both for a business and private trip. One of the essential aspects to pay attention to before signing the contract with the rental company is the insurance coverage. Full Casco (Full CASCO) gives the driver a sense of security and minimizes the risk of unexpected costs. Below we explain so that everyone can understand what Full Casco is, what it includes, what it does not include and how to proceed in the event of damage.
What is a Full Helmet?
Full helmet is an extended form of auto insurance, designed to provide maximum protection for the vehicle and driver. In practice, it means limiting the renter’s financial responsibility to a minimum – often to zero – in the event of damage, theft or destruction of the car.
What does the Full Helmet usually include?
Comprehensive Casco coverage can vary depending on the rental company, but most commonly includes:
-
damage resulting from collisions and accidents,
-
damage caused in parking (e.g. scratches, bumps/bends),
-
theft of the vehicle or parts of it,
-
damage caused by third parties,
-
unexpected events (force majeure) such as hail, storm/tornado or flood.
What doesn’t often come with a full helmet?
Despite the extensive protection, the Full Helmet usually does not cover:
-
damage caused under the influence of alcohol or drugs,
-
damages resulting from gross negligence,
-
damage to the vehicle interior (e.g. burnt upholstery),
-
use of the car contrary to the contract (e.g. off-road driving with a city car).
What is the difference between helmet and full helmet?
Casco insurance in its standard form offers protection to the vehicle against events such as collisions, accidents or theft, but very often requires the renter to pay an excess (own participation). This means that, even in the event of a minor breakdown, the driver must cover part of the repair costs out of his own pocket. Furthermore, the Casco standard usually includes numerous disclaimers, which in practice can limit the level of protection.
Full Casco is the extended version of insurance, the purpose of which is to minimize the financial responsibility of the vehicle user. In most cases Full Casco eliminates the deductible or reduces it to a minimum, so the driver does not incur repair costs even for minor damage.

We invite you to consult our long and short term rental offer.
What to do with the rental car in case of damage?
-
Stop the vehicle and secure the scene.
-
Check to see if anyone has been injured and call for help if necessary.
-
Contact the rental company and inform them of the accident.
-
Complete the friendly assessment (guilty plea) or call the police if necessary – remember that new regulations in Romania require the police to be called if at least one person was injured in the accident or if 3 (or more) vehicles were involved.
- Document the damage (photo, video, description of the event).
- Follow the rental company’s instructions: we will take care of the rest of the formalities in the DEX CAR call center.
